"Don't Change the Subject" Hand-Painted Acrylic on Paper 8Hx10Wx1.5D by Erin McGrath Rieke
ABOUT
The painting Don’t Change the Subject breathes like a confession spilled in the small hours, its thin whispering layers folding into each other with a feral intimacy. It’s as if the paper itself is begging to be heard. Encircling the light gray is a bright yellow, electric in its insistence yet trembling with fragility. It doesn’t embrace so much as it fences—a desperate, fevered attempt to protect the gray’s quiet ache. The yellow hums with an unrelenting energy, vibrating against the gray’s stillness, as if shouting to be noticed but secretly afraid of what might happen if it truly is. Together, these elements feel like standing too close to someone’s raw nerve, daring them to look you in the eye, daring them to stay.
