sun kisses the earth, melting away the last of the ice storm’s remnants
windows are opened, and the cool, fresh air slowly breaks through the old brick house stuffiness.
i hear the call of the hawk, and i go to the window.
three hawks circle about and dive in the sky above me. i remain silent and still. then one at a time they land on branches of the giant oak tree right above my head.

My heart rate was off the charts today. I’ve noticed that recently. The dangerous spikes have returned-the ones im supposed to Monitor. I had been good about charting everything for so long, but then my life unraveled again. It always does that. Unravels at inconvenient times.
I’ve been doing my best to stick wDespite wearing my noise canceling headphones, I hear the call of the birds.

I can feel the tightness in my chest. Knots lock up my neck, back, legs and feet. It feels like all the muscles in my body decided to collectively join in on a giant Charley horse.
My chest is tight.
I try to open my jaw, and it feels like I’m trying to pry open one of the old paint cans rusting in the back of the studio.
my stomach muscles feel unusually loose, given the nature of my body tension
I hear them. Their song lifts my eyes. Lifts my spirit.
they cross over in a crooked triangle
a moment of silvery white dashing across the sky.
I stop. Focus on my breathing.
Breathe in four. Hold four. Breathe out eight.
